I can not say ENOUGH GREAT THINGS about Dr. Skeens and his staff. I was visiting CA on vacation and needed an emergency crown. He was recommended by a gal standing in front of me at STARBUCKS...how funny. I was desperate so I figured I had nothing to lose. His attentiveness, follow up, compassionnate nature and professionalism are second to none. It doesn't hurt that he's a cutie as well:) His complete honesty was appreciated as I did end up needing follow up care once I got back home from vacation. What a wake up call when I went to a local dentist in Florida, only to be treated like a # not a person. PLEASE GO SEE DR. SKEENS if you need a dentist...I only wish I could fly him to Florida to be my dentist...then again I hope I don't have to go to the dentist anytime soon...thanks for a pleasant experience!!!!

Dr Skeens took over a practice of a dentist that did my dental care for 30 years. That dentist was excellent so I was concerned about a new dentist. I have anxiety about dentists, but everyone there helped to ease them. He is caring (e.g. follow up calls), he explains what he will/is doing, and why. Cares about pain, comfort, anxiety etc. He does not try to overtreat (only does what is needed) and doesn't try to sell cosmetic dentistry. Once again: BEST dentist!!!

Dr. Skeens is WONDERFUL!

My 6 year old went in for her cleaning and check-up and it was a great experience. He was attentive and explained everything he was doing before he proceeded so she was not afraid one bit. She asks every so often when is it that she gets to go back. Now that is truly cool!

When I went in for my cleaning and check-up I received the best care I have ever received. He was attentive to my comments and questions and made sure that I had a full understanding of what he found during my exam.

My huband had extensive work and each night after an appointment Dr. Skeens called to check in. We have never had this type of care.

I was referred to Dr. Skeens by the military due to the extensive amount of work that I needed done. He has transformed a yuck mouth into a great looking smile I can be proud of. He ensured that through out the whole process that my I was as pain free as possible. After this experience my phobia of Dentist's is almost gone. I recently retired to Encinitas from New York City. After reading reviews on the net (including those on Dr. Oogle), I selected Dr. Skeens. I was favorably impressed with my treatments which included replacement of several fillings, deep root cleaning, and an extraction with bone graft in preparation for a dental implant. Dr. Skeens and his assistant administered the local anesthetic after numbing my gum so completely, I could not even tell when a needle was inserted. I paid by personal check and assumed the fees charged were standard for these treatments.

I can almost gaurantee that ive been to the dentist more times than you, I have had almost all of my teeth filled or replaced. I have lived in california, washington, arizona, nevada, texas, and hawaii. Obviously i have been to a lot of dffernt doctors. Dr skeens is the best doctor i have ever had. He has done multiple fillings and a root canal. I have had ZERO pain from the procedures he has done. I was eating a normall dinner the day of my root canal. I am normally really scared to go to the dentist, so i put it off for years and years, plus with my genetics i get cavities really easily. The clinic that he runs is very friendly, they dont treat you like a patient, they treat you like a long lost friend. So you dont really feel like your at the dentist. But they are still very professional at the same time. I have one more filling coming up and im not even nervous. I am writing this out of my own free will, not because somebody told me to. So who ever is reading this just know this; you wont get that scared feeling you normally get when you go to him, its totally different.

i followed dr skeens from another office because it took me several dentists and many horrible dental experiences to find him. i recommend everyone i know to go to him because he really helps you understand your dental needs, he's a perfectonists during his procedures and he's very good at making sure you're comfortable. the fact he has his own practice now is just icing on the cake....his staff is just as friendly and talented as him. I have been going to Dr. Skeen's office for dental checkups and maintenance since he took over the Encinitas office from Dr. Hoffman a year or two ago. During this time I have received excellent care and recently, within the past 6 months, started with invisaline teeth alignment. Dr. Skeens did a great job introducing me to the product and taking me though the process from moldings to the completion of my first set of aligners. I am very satisfied with the results so far and look forward to finishing up the treatment in the next 6 months or so.

Dr. Skeens saved me. I have only lived in San Diego for two years and I found a dentist in San Marcos who was absolutely horrible. He did two of my fillings and wanted to do six more. It was painful and he did a terrible job!

I luckily found Dr. Skeens online and went to see him the next week. He was patient and took X-rays and showed me how he would fix my previous fillings. He did a great job and called me after each procedure to check and see how I was doing. I would like to say that I have been in the Marines for 22 years and I have had various dental work done since I was 8 years old, so needless to say I have been in a few chairs. I was consulted out to Dr. Skeens and to my surprise, the few visits I had with him were the best if there is such a thing for a dental patient. He is extremely personable and professional. The work he did on my teeth was absolutely amazing. He put in five crowns and a bridge in a minium amount of appointments and time. My favorite part of the whole experience was how friendly and comforting Dr. Skeens and his entire staff were. Until i started being treated by doctor Skeens my usual dental appointments consisted of long waits followed by a non-personal dental exam and treatment. However, in Doctor Skeens' office I never waited more than few minutes and if was going to be any longer he, or one of his hygienist would come greet me, talk to me about why and how long the wait would be, but most important of all make sure i was comfortable. During the procedure the staff made me feel very calm and let me know everything they were doing which I liked a lot because it made me prepared for whatever they were doing and also made it so that I didn't have any questions about what was being done. Just to add to all of his hospitality and concern about his patients, Dr. Skeens would always call me later that day to make sure everything was going fine in my mouth and to answer any questions I may have had. I used to be so scared of dentists that I would shake and cry during the whole exam, but NOT with Dr. Skeens. He and his staff (Renee, Sarah and Dale) are so patient, so kind and so warm. They talked me through any fears and now I (brace for it) actually ENJOY going to the dentist. Dr. Skeens and his staff know my first name without having to look it up on my chart. They have a busy office but they remember ME and the work they have done on me in the past. All of my front teeth on top have cosmetic crowns on them and they look so beautiful and natural. People compliment me on my smile daily. Yesterday I was cutting down a tree with a chainsaw at work and a lady from that neighborhood stopped me to ask a question. I was filthy-dirty with sawdust and soot all over me and all she noticed was my "beautiful smile" and she commented that I "looked like a movie star." I never got comments like that before going to this dentist.

About Hygienist: Sarah is so professional and calming and kind. My teeth feel all slickery-clean when she is done with them. She knows me by name, remembers my kid's name, what I do for a living and what flavor of tooth polish I like without having to reference my chart. Now that's service!

Dr. Skeens is very professional yet very personable as well. He and his staff (Dale, Renee, and Sarah) all clearly try to make the patients as comfortable as possible. My husband and I both have to have a lot of work done due to prior neglect, but they make it easy to keep up with it all. I had multiple fillings and a crown put in by Dr. Skeens, and two wisdom teeth removed recently. He usually manages to get the injections in painlessly or almost painlessly, and that seems to be a rare talent. He is very considerate during all procedures, and so is Renee who assists him. He made follow up calls following my extraction personally, though he did it so well that have no problems and very little pain.

At the front, Dale is very good at working out convinient appointment times, phoning with reminders, and arranging billing properly. Everyone there knows all of our family and asks about others when one visits. I would (and do) recommend them to anyone with a fear of dentists -- they will make it go away.

About Hygienist: Sarah is amazing! She is very gentle, and exceptionally patient. I take me children to this practice as well, and my 4-year-old son is very fond of getting his teeth cleaned by Sarah. It is not the toys (though they have good toys), he enjoys the process and she talks him through it so that he has fun. My 7-year-old is very difficult, but Sarah handles even her with patience and attention to detail. I avoided dental offices for years before I found this practice, but I will stick with them for as long as they'll have me.

I had severe tooth pain the day before Christmas and Dr. Skeens returned my call on Christmas day and made a perscription for Vicodone to get me throught the holidays. Once his office reopened I was able to be seen the next day. I had to have a tooth removed and the process was super quick (less than 5 minutes) and relatively painless. I am in the proces of having my implant tooth installed.

Last week, Dr. Skeens completed a crown and a composite restoration in my mouth. Having sold my dental practice to him, I already knew that his dentistry was of a caliber far above that of most dentists, as I was extremely particular in choosing the person who would continue to care for my patients and friends. I had avoided dental work for longer than I care to admit. Once I started looking for a dentist, my brother recommended his own dentist, Dr. Skeens. After a brief internal debate about how much longer I could reasonably put it off, I called and made an appointment.

I had to have several procedures done over a series of appointments. Dr. Skeens and his staff worked with me to fit appointments into my schedule. To top it off, I never sat in the waiting room long enough to go through a magazine.

Dr. Skeens and his staff made every effort to make sure that I was comfortable during my visits. More importantly, they made sure that I felt no pain during the procedures, and followed up later to make sure that I was okay. The standard of care that Dr. Skeens' office provides is outstanding!

I've traded avoidance for regular dental care. In fact, I've already scheduled my 6 month appointment! I highly recommend this practice.

We have been using him for the last two years, and no other doctor we have met has been as conscientious and thorough. He is careful to do a really good job, taking extra time when needed. Not many doctors do that in these days of assembly-line medicine.

My 86-year old mom really likes him too; and if she says so, he must be good! She is needed a fair amount of work (being 86), and she is hard to please. I used to have to drive her 30 miles to Escondido before we found him.

Best dentist ever! About a week ago I finished a repair / reconstruction with Dr. Skeens over the past three months. Not only did he fix / finish a previous root canal and saved a tooth, but he also got my complete dental health up to date including four wisdom extractions. The post/crown which saved my tooth went in smooth and look / feel great! Despite the extent of the work needed over the three months, I only needed a small amount of Advil to be comfortable and that was it! I'm a definite customer for life.
