Case Description
My wife received a quote this AM for $3000 to install two crowns on molars, one has existing amalgam fillings, the other , a crown, has a "hole". Fortunately, there is no pain.

Without a complete examination, I understand there is perhaps no way to estimate a cost, but is $1500 the "going rate" for a crown? I was looking for somethig less than half that.

Cost for procedures vary by area. By your description, I would guess that Build-Ups (removal of existing filling, decay, hole and placing filling to create a retentive anatomical crown) were part of this estimate.
