My dentist recently recommended some major (e.g. expensive) dental work to prevent the potential for root canals to be completed on my molars due to grinding. I asked for an estaimte before agreeing to treatment, and was provided a total cost of several thousand dollars, with my portion only resulting in a few hundred dollars after insurance. Based on this estimate, I proceeded with treatment but was then shocked when they charged me over 450% of the estimate at my final appointment!!! I resisted, indicating it was nowhere near the estimate they had provided - now forcing me to pay several thousand dollars instead of a few hundred - but the receptionist indicated that my insurance caps the individual's annual maximum per year. She then proceeded to print me a copy of the insurance form stating this which was faxed to their office 3 weeks BEFORE I received my estimate. Obviously, had I known my true out of pocket expense, I would have not proceeded with the treatment at this time, or would have made some creative financing arrangements. The dental office is basically telling me I am out of luck. Do I have any recourse here????
